What Is Moon Water?
Moon water is the equivalent of holy water for witches. This lunar potion provides us with powerful energy while also purifying everything around us.
It’s made by letting drinking water sit overnight under the moonlight, with its properties changing depending on the moon phase. It’s used in rituals, blessings, and spells as a magical tool.
Moon water is often the very first potion a witch makes, becoming a classic in magick and witchcraft.

How to make Moon Water?
- Fill a glass bottle with still drinking or mineral water.
- Cover the opening with a piece of gauze and secure it with tape or a rubber band. This prevents insects or dirt from getting in. Do not use a lid, as the water needs to be in contact with the night air and moonlight.
- Leave it out all night under the moon to absorb its energy. A windowsill works, but direct outdoor moonlight is best.
- Retrieve the bottle in the morning before sunrise.
- Label it with the date and the moon phase.
Keep in mind: moon water lasts one lunar cycle (about 28–30 days).
What if I forget to bring it in before sunrise?
It’s best to repeat the process the next night. Moon phases usually last at least three days.
